4 Point Skirt pattern? [05 May 2007|03:33am]

elven_sphinx
I've heard this particular kind of skirt referred to as a 4 Point or a petal skirt...here's a pic. of what I'm referring to:

Or this:

-But only four points instead of 8.

I don't have the money to go get the pattern right now and I already have the necessary sewing notions, elastic, and oodles of fabric.
I want to be able to make the skirt out of one piece of fabric...the only sewing necessary being hemming and putting in the elastic.

Where could I find some info. online for this kind of skirt? Or does anyone have any info. they'd care to share with me?

Also, this is a little more complicated, most likely. I'd like to use this skirt as a top...so the elastic waistband of this skirt would be above the chest, but I'd also like to add another round of elastic under the bust, so it's useable as a top both with or without a bodice. I plan on adding sleeves, but that won't be difficult and I've got some patterns for nice sleeves from other chemise patterns.

How might I create the casing for the elastic under the bust? Would I have to cut the top (bust) part away and then resew it to the rest of the fabric, but having the edges overlap so that they create a casing...or is there any easier way to do this?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope that my descriptions are clear here...please let me know if they are not and I'll try my best to clarify.

Thanks again!:)

anyone ever used this pattern? http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B4254=x&TI=10013&page=6\

likes/dislikes?

I'm thinking that the back lace 17th century one would be passable for a tudor dress of the renaissance persuasion... I could also make wenchy type garb with that too... (maybe make one, reversible- plain linen on one side, something fancier on the other? Thoughts?

One-of-a-kind elvish leafy shiny for sale! [26 Oct 2006|11:17am]

rhiannontherose
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Part of the Butterfly Rose Creations Silver Leaves Collection, this one-of-a-kind, original-design pendant is hand-made from solid fine silver (.999 pure), sterling silver bezel settings (for strength), labradorite, spectrolite and grey moonstone cabachons (in order of descending size), and a "pale natural" oxidation wash (that could be removed to show the silver's bright natural coloring, if preferred). The whole piece measures at around 2.5"-2.75" long, depending on the angle you're measuring from, and the design is based around replicas of real leaves! Each leaf is used once, and destroyed, in the process of taking its impression, and no castings were made -- even among the few design replicas, no other piece will be exactly like this one. This piece of fine jewelry truly is wearable art, as unique as the one who will wear it.

Carry a timeless bit of the verdant woods into Winter with you....

STOLEN PENDRAGON ITEMS [09 Oct 2006|06:43pm]

surlywench
If this was posted, I apologize, I missed it. This info came to me from another group I'm on.
*********************************************
Just a headzup . . .
Last week, sometime between the third and fourth (final) weekend of the first-year event "California Renaissance Faire" (on the Ortega Hwy between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore) someone made their way thru the grounds of the CRF and stole a number of items. A gaming table from the nobles, merchandise from vendors, etc.

Worst hit was Pendragon Costume who had two storage tubs of product taken. This included a full size selection of their Desiree bodices both in black suede and black top-grain, a full selection of their signature tooled bodices, Hand tooled belts, pouches, and tankard holders made especially for the event, and a couple of doublets. Several of the items were unique.

If anyone comes across someone selling a selection of Pendragon product(via eBay, rummage sale, small event booth, privately to acquaintances, etc.), perhaps claiming to be an authorized reseller - they're not, it's stolen. (Pendragon normally sells direct only, their profit margin is too slim to sell via 3rd parties and maintain their prices).

Please report any suspicious offerings of Pendragon product to authorities, or to their site PendragonCostumes.com.
This despicable theft was a tremendous loss to Nicole the owner, an extremely hard-working divorced mother of three with no other source of income.)

I had gotten a good deal a while back on some tiered stretch velvet skirts (both black and brown) with sequin trim, so I snagged a whole bunch. Now that my friends and local fellow plus sized dancers have had their pick, I’m selling the rest on eBay. I posted them all with “Buy It Now” prices…or make an offer instead! All reasonable offers considered!

Garb making question [01 May 2006|01:07am]

elven_sphinx
I have McCall's 4091 Costume pattern:

-and am interested in making either garment C or D (-which would be the long chemise with the lacing down the sleeves or the chemise top with lacing down the sleeves.)

-Has anyone ever made either of these or worn them before and if so, what was your opinion of the pattern and/or garment? Would you make it or wear it again? Did you like how it looked...also, does anyone have any pics. of someone wearing either garment from this pattern?

I have some thick green gauze I'd like to make the chemise out of, but I'm not sure if I'll actually like it or not.

Any advice or suggestions/opinions are highly appreciate and thank you to everyone and anyone who replies!:)

All, due to both breadwinners in our household being laid off in rapid succession, in the midst of our purchasing a house, it's become necessary for me to sell my beloved faire wardrobe. :( :( :(

I finally posted everything (at least everything that could be sold) up on eBay. Here's the overview: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZhannahkinsyQQhtZ-1

Take a look and see if anything trips your trigger (so to speak).

Actually, it's not so bad, since we're trying to clean stuff out of closets and boxes before we move.

Well, we did keep one costume a piece, because you never know.
